This is a 7" EP running at 33 RPM. The Outer Planets in a stripped down three-piece format with special guest Brad "Elvis" Steakly on drums, David "Elmo" Nelson on standup, and Ron " Big Daddy Sun" Cannon on guitar and vocals. Recorded at Faithful Sound Recording Studio in Champaign, IL on a 1" Ampex 8-track format through tube Neumann's and an ancient Urei tube board. What great sound!
The record takes you on a trip into outer space starting with a wild instrumental, The Outer Planets, featuring Link Wray inspired guitar work over unusual chaotic counter rhythms. Followed by, What a Rocket! ,a zooming ride on a hot-rod rocket ship complete with frantic vocals and plush rolled and pleated interior. Side two starts with a cover of a Willie Dixon tune, Crazy Mixed Up World, featuring some outstanding vocals by Big Daddy. Then we are brought back to earth with a truly hedonistic version of an old Mills Brothers tune Smack Dab in the Middle featuring a big vocal arrangement with the late Mike "Pinky Lee Craddock" Bergquist and others.
